[Mr Ring, Reading, Berks] [Marked “Augst 16 – 1796]

Dear Sir and Madam

I am sorry to trouble you so often with my notes, yet I thought it proper you should know, that the Lord has been pleased to make my journey practicable – which I did not expect on Monday. I have taken two places in the Reading Coach for Friday, and we hope to be with you (as they tell me at the Inn) about seven in the evening.

Pray that the Lord may crown our meeting with his blessing. We are in ourselves empty vessels and can communicate nothing good to each other unless we first receive it from him.

I am, in haste
Your affectionate
John Newton
