John 16:14

He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
Preached on 7 June 1767

Only those who know the value of Christ’s spiritual presence, can judge of the disciples’ concern when apprehensive of his departure. We have him still in a more excellent way.
1. The test of the true spirit: he glorifies Jesus. Try all books, preachers and experience by this.
2. His office – to take:
  2.1 What things? v15 All things. [1]
    2.1.1 His person
    2.1.2 His offices
2.1.3 His love – as free, great, unchangeable
  2.2 How?
    2.2.1 By enlightening our understandings
2.2.2 By putting life into the ordinances, which without him but a dead letter.
3. This a pattern and rule for our prayers. What we find promised we may boldly ask. And this suited for the supply of all our wants and complaints – respecting unbelief, weakness, temptation. When the Spirit shows Jesus, all objections fail.
Have you seen these things? If not your religion is vain.
Believers bring this as a petition to the table. Do you want to see Jesus? There is only a veil which he can rend in a  moment.
