On 1 February 1749 OS (12 February 1750 NS) John Newton married Mary (Polly) Catlett at St Margaret's church in Rochester
St Margaret's Rochester
The Newtons were living at the Catlett's home in Chatham
Newton had left the sea in 1754, after providentially meeting Captain Alexander Clunie in St Kitts, who brought him forward in his faith and advised where to hear good teaching in London.
